Challenge Grant

The Wyoming State Reading Council of the International Reading Association announces the CHALLENGE Grant Program. The Purpose of the CHALLENGE Grant Program is to “challenge” teaching professionals who are members of the Wyoming State Reading Council to reach for their highest degree of competency in reading instruction.

The limit of each CHALLENGE Grant awarded is $300. The CHALLENGE Grants will support efforts by successful applicants to develop and use new and innovative reading curriculum programs directly with students. For the purpose of this grant, the “new and innovative” words will mean reading curriculum ideas untried in the applicant’s classroom. The reading curriculum program may be a previously existing curriculum or one developed by the teaching professional. Successful recipients of the CHALLENGE Grants will be notified by March 31, of the application year.

Eligibility:
The applicant must have become a member of the Wyoming State Reading Council before January 1 of the application year.

Guidelines for Applying:

1. Submit a completed application form furnished by the Wyoming State Reading Council (WSRC).

2. The proposal outlined on the application must involve instruction or promotion of READING.

3. The proposal must have direct impact on students. Direct impact means that the work and implementation of the program must be done directly with the students.

4. To be considered, a proposal plan must be outlined in detail and must include an itemized Budget Sheet. (Grant applicants may want to keep duplicate records as these forms will not be returned.)

5. The Wyoming Reading Council considers the CHALLENGE Grant Program of great significance to the entire WSRC membership. Grant recipients will, therefore, be asked to present their innovative reading program in the form of a presentation at the annual WSRC State Conference, an article in the “Wiretap,” or another effective communication technique to the WSRC population.

6. Any publicity regarding the reading curriculum programs funded by this grant must acknowledge the Wyoming State Reading Council for its support.

7. CHALLENGE Grant monies shall not be used for wages, salaries, professional travel, or fees.
