Due to low registration numbers, the Wyoming State Reading Council was forced to cancel the Spring Literacy Conference. We regret any inconvenience this may cause those who had registered for the conference.

John Cowger was nominated by the Cody Reading Council. John has taught K-5th grade and began his work as a Reading Specialist in 1996. He currently is the Literacy Coach for Sunset Elementary. He has been instrumental in encouraging literacy at all levels in the district from working one on one with a student to promoting reading within the community. He has been an asset to the students in his district and to fellow educators for professional growth in his district as well as throughout the state.
Grandpa Sam Piraino, a volunteer, was nominated by the Campbell County Reading Council. He spent his time at school listening to students read and reading with them. He has demonstrated the joy and love of learning through reading for many students. He speaks three different languages and has brought a wealth of knowledge about other cultures and countries, which he shared with the students.

The purpose of the Celebrate Literacy Award given by the Wyoming State Reading Council is to recognize individuals, agencies, or institutions that have made significant contributions to literacy. Candidates are recognized at the local level and then nominated by the local councils to be considered for the state award. This year the Celebrate Literacy Award was presented to co-winners.
